    Text NORTHFIELD - Ethel Louise (Miller) Carpenter, 91, of Birnam Road, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Saturday (2-9-13) at the Advent Christian Nursing Home in Vernon, Vt.
    She was born April 26, 1921 in Northfield, MA, the daughter of Lula (Hale) Doolittle Miller and Leon C. Miller. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1939. Ethel married Paul H. Carpenter on June 22, 1946, and they enjoyed 59 1/2 years of marriage prior to Paul's death in 2006.
    Ethel was employed at the Valley Vista Inn in Northfield, Millers Falls Tool Co. and she also ran Aunt Ethel's concession at Ken Millers Auction Barn in Northfield. She was a wonderful cook and baker, making all the 100s of gingerbread cookies for the Christmas Bazaar at the 1st Unitarian Church in Northfield. She was known as the Gingerbread Lady. She made wedding, anniversary, shower, birthday cakes for many people throughout the area. She always chaired the Swedish Meatball supper for her church each year at the town hall and went out of her way to make goodies for the church food sales. She was a member of the 1st Unitarian Church in Northfield, a past member of the VFW Auxiliary in Northfield. She was a member and past Matron of the Northfield Chapter 82 Order of the Eastern Star, and was deputy Grand Marshal in the Order of Eastern Star for the State of Massachusetts.
    Ethel was predeceased by five brothers: Everett Doolittle, Melvin Miller, Kenneth Miller, Eugene Miller of Northfield, and Theodore Miller of Hinsdale, N.H. Four sisters: Edna Roberts of Bernardston, Ione Rowe of Athol, MA, Florence Walker and Jennie Miller of Northfield. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Madeline Barnes and her husband Leslie of Orange, MA, and Ruth Carpenter of North Port, FL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Her niece Joyce Roberts and her husband Fred were her caregivers since 2006.
    Funeral Services will be Wednesday (2-13-2013) at 2 p.m. at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, Main St., Northfield. The Rev. Dr. Christine Fontaine, interim Pastor will officiate.
    Burial, in Pentecost Cemetery, Northfield, will be in the spring.
    Calling hours will be Tuesday (2-12-2013) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield, MA.
    Ethel will be deeply missed by all her relatives and friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Staff at the Advent Christian Nursing Home in Vernon, Vt. and to Dr. Moss Linder for their wonderful care of Ethel.
