    Text ATHOL - Josephine E. (Glasheen) Reid, 89, of 186 Spring St., a retired teacher, died Monday at Athol Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Reid would have celebrated her 90th birthday today.

    Her husband, George L. Reid, died in 1993. She leaves a son, George L. Reid Jr. of Orange; three daughters, Catherine Willard of Athol, Joy Taintor of East Templeton and Roberta Swan of Orange; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Winchendon, daughter of Robert F. and Josephine (Doolan) Glasheen, and lived here all her life. She graduated from Athol High School in 1923, and from Keene (N.H.) Normal School in 1928.

    Mrs. Reid taught second grade at the Highland School for 13 years, retiring in 1966. From 1930 to 1936, she taught at the Riverbend School. From 1928 to 1929, she taught seventh grade at High Plains School in South Barre. After she retired, she briefly taught in the Orange school system. She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, and Edward Phillips Post, American Legion Auxiliary.

    The funeral will be held Friday from J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol 01331.
