    Text ATHOL - John S. Hunter,76 of 600 Vine St., Athol, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol. He was born in Athol, on March 21, 1929, the son of the late Raymond M. and the late May (Skevington) Hunter. He grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. Mr. Hunter was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed at the Union Twist Drill Company for many years as a miller, he retired in 1985. He previously worked at the Merrifield Dairy. John enjoyed fly fishing, going to the casino and loved sports especially football. He was an avid Red Sox fan. He leaves one sister, Phyllis Shaw of Athol; his close companion, Norma M. Purple of Athol; nieces and nephews, Rita Besseck, Mary Ann Jacobs, Linda Pickett, Pat Miller, Joe Ziguloski, Jane Rice, Fred Shaw, Gordon Shaw and Sandra Engel along with many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie (Ziguloski) Hunter and by a brother, R. Russell Hunter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2005, at 2:00 pm in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 12 - 2 p.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions be made in his memory to Athol High School Scholarship Association PO Box 338, Athol, MA 01331 or to a chairity of oneĀ“s choice.
