According to his obituary, "When he first came to Orange he was employed in the old cabinet shop but most of his life had been devoted to farming. He was a man of fine principles, fair and honorable and disposed always to be a friend of man. For many years he had been a member of the Orange Congregational church and for some time had served as deacon. At the time of his death he was a master workman of the local order of United Workman."
