According to his obituary, "Gene served his country with the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963 as a flight-line mechanic and crew chief primarily on the F-100 aircraft at Wheeler Air Force Base in Tripoli, North Africa and Kincheloe Air Force Base in Sault Marie, Mich. He was an avid car enthusiast and close associate of the local Stroker Car Club. Gene supported and participated in local Cruise Night events and was a member of the ERLI days of racing and The "A" Team which set a land speed record. He often attended the weekly car shows at the Ludlow Lodge of Moose and in Chicopee."  [2]
