- Obituary: 26 Jan 2000; ORANGE -- Barbara A. (McKenney) Barnes, 67, of 232 West River St., a retired accounts payable clerk, died Monday, Jan. 24, at her son's residence in Tully.
She leaves her husband of 46 years, Charles L. Barnes; three sons, Charles E. Barnes of San Angelo, Texas, Larry Barnes of Orange and David Barnes of Phillipston; a daughter, Jean Whitmore of Oxford; a brother, Robert W. McKenney of Orange; two sisters, Joan Reid of Orange and Marie Tavernini of Alexandria, Va.; her mother, Iva McKenney of Orange; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. She was born in Orange, daughter of Everett and Iva (Jones) McKenney, and graduated from Orange High School in 1950.
Mrs. Barnes was an accounts payable clerk 30 years for Rodney Hunt Co. She retired in 1998.
She was a member of First Universalist Church, where she served as treasurer, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of the Marion E. Nason Unity Club. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Themis Chapter 30 in Athol and a member of the Swift River Valley Historical Society in New Salem.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, in Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Universalist Church, Building Fund, 31 North Main St., Orange, MA 01364.
