He engaged in the second hand and antique business for, 15 rears and later served as care-aker of several summer residences in the Ames Hill area. • Obituary: 21 Aug 1997; GREENFIELD - Ruby M. (Whitaker) North, 85, of 14 Graves Road died Monday at home after a long illness. Her husband, Kenneth North, died in 1990. She leaves her son, Wayne K. North of Leominster; a daughter, Janet E. Rura of Indianapolis; three sisters, Ruth W. Bolton of Hebron, Maine, Eva B. Sedgwick of Winterhaven, Fla., and Elinor Ambo of Porters Corners, N.Y.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was born in Gill, daughter of Charles and Orra May (Hale) Whitaker. She graduated from Powers Institute in Bernardston in 1929 and later did a post-graduate year with the Institute. She also attended Greenfield Commercial School, Bay Path Institute in Springfield, Fitchburg State Teachers College and Greenfield Community College. She was an operator at New England Telephone Co. for 18 years and a teacher in the Gill schools for many years, retiring in 1972. She was a 60-year-plus member of the Bernardston Unitarian Church. She has been the church's organ player, choir director, a Sunday School teacher and a trustee. She was a member of the Sylvan-Rebekah Lodge 87 of Greenfield and an assistant librarian with the Cushman Library from 1925 to 1931. She also was a member of the First United Methodist Bernardston Church of Greenfield and the retired teachers association. She enjoyed playing the organ, both for the church and for herself. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. today at the Walker Funeral Home, 14 High St., Greenfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Franklin County, 164 High St., Greenfield 01301, or to a charity of the donor's choice. In 1997 Christine moved with her daughter's family to Bozeman. He played for President John Kennedy, Luciano Pavarotti, among other known individuals. He belonged to the Musicians Union, Leominster Art Association, Queen Lake Association, Phillipston Historical Society, American Sailing Association, the Delvey Association and the American Legion. He loved to sail, building his own boats, taking photographs, skiing, sailing, swimming, gardening and rescuing pets. He leaves his wife Evelyn (Munson) North, a sister Janet Smith (Norm), and many nephews and nieces, Steven (Cherie), Dennis (Sheila) Lou Ann Ewing (Harry) Ben, Christina (Zack), Lauren, Logan, Ashley, Joseph, Jeremy, Jake, and Elliot all of the Mid West. 12 cousins around the United States, his friends, neighbors and fellow musicians all whom he enjoyed. While in school he was a land surveyor for The State of Massachusetts, and later was employed by Gilbain Engineering Co of Providence, RI, working on projects on The Prudential Center in Boston, buildings at Brown University in RI, and The Computer Center building in Framingham, MA. He later was Vice President and Director of Site Developement for T&M Building Company for 25 years. He was a member of The Greenfield Elks and later Torrington Elks. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah M Siano of Greenfield, MA; and sons Donald E Miller and his wife Patricia of Guilford VT, Robert L. Miller and his wife Gwen of Turners Falls MA, Gary D. Miller; and his fiancee Traci Barba of Southington and Robert D. (Hopper) Hopkins II of Turners Falls MA; six grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Shirley M Smith of Greenfield MA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 26, 10 a.m. at United Congregational Church, 1622, Torringford St., Torrington.   ERVING, MA - Douglas M. Walker, 78, of Mountain Road, died at home early Tuesday morning, January 24, 2023 following an illness, with loved ones at his side. Born in Northfield on June 25, 1944, he was the son of the late William C. and Florence (Miller) Walker and attended Northfield schools and graduated from Greenfield Commerce School. On September 12, 1993, Doug married Mary (Whitmore) and enjoyed 43 wonderful years together. Doug was employed with Erving Paper Mill for 38 years before retiring. An avid sports fan, Doug enjoyed all the New England sports, but especially the Boston Bruins. Doug had a gift for making others laugh and enjoyed all the family functions. He liked to play cards, going to the casino, playing Keno, and grilling for everyone. Doug loved his John Deere tractor and was known for plowing out his neighbors during the winter. He loved his log cabin and Walker Mountain. A member of the Erving Fire Department, Doug was also a member of the Orange American Legion and the Harmony Lodge of Freemasons. Miller Sr. and Thelma (French) Miller. He was the oldest of eight children. Through the years, Ted worked at Paper Services in Ashuelot, was a truck driver for BDR Transportation in Brattleboro, was a member of the Carpenter’s Union and worked for Roger Miller Construction in Hinsdale. He was a former employee of the State of New Hampshire Highway Department, retiring in 2002 to care for his daughter, Jill, and performing part-time work at Evergreen Cemetery in Winchester. Ted loved riding his trike with his wife and then later with his daughter, Jill. He also enjoyed listening to older country music, watching NASCAR, spending time with family at the many gatherings and watching the Boston Red Sox. He could often be found having coffee at his kitchen table or on the porch with anyone who stopped to visit. He was best known for the many stories he loved to tell. On Sept. 29, 1958, Ted married Frances Wasileski. They made their home in Ashuelot and had four children. He is survived by his children: Thomas Miller and wife, Terri, of Hinsdale; Mark Miller and his girlfriend, Heidi Parent, of Brattleboro; Jill Miller of Ashuelot; and Karen Harris and her husband, Dan, of Bellows Falls. Ted is also survived by his siblings: Roger Miller and his wife, Shirley, of Ozark, Ala.; John Miller and his wife, Barbara, of Hinsdale; Norman Miller and his wife, Paula, of Northfield, Mass.; Diane Nadeau and her husband, Dennis, of Hinsdale; and Julie Seymour and her husband, Dan of Hinsdale. He leaves behind six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. • Obituary: 7 Jan 2023; WARWICK, MA - Brent F. Walker, 50, of Wendell Road, died on Wednesday morning, January 4, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer, with loved ones at his side. Born in Greenfield on July 11, 1972, he was the son of Douglas and Barbara (Johnson) Walker. He attended Pioneer Valley Regional and graduated from Franklin County Technical School. Brent was employed at Johnson's Farm Restaurant until it closed. He had previously worked for Adams Doughnuts and Horizon Beverage Company. Brent was a son, brother, amazing father, special uncle and nephew. He was a generous and loyal friend with a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He loved a good time and always loved his gatherings for family events or parties with friends. He had beautiful blue eyes and a infectious laugh, "Brentski" enjoyed going to Herrick's Tavern, playing Keno and loved lobster. Brent served on the Warwick Fire Department for a number of years. With a love of cooking and baking, Brent would deliver his baked goods to family and friends. His special relatives and friends would receive a giant chocolate chip cookie for their birthday. Brent enjoyed kayaking with his son, karaoke parties, trips to Maine, going for rides, and his dog "Jack". Brent is survived by his son, Benjamin; his mother, Barbara Johnson Walker; his father, Doug Walker (Mary); brothers, Shawn Walker (Jenn), Scott Walker, Brad Walker (Bethany), and Shane Smart (Danielle); nephews and nieces, Kelsey, Lily, Stephanie, Bryan, Austin and Sofia.
