He stayed in the Army after the end of World War II and served for 26 years, retiring as a First Sergeant. According to his obituary "He earned a master of education degree from the University of Texas-El Paso, and served as a teacher and administrator in the El Paso schools. Most recently he taught for 11 years at the American School in La Paz, Bolivia."
