Guy and Elsie Prentice Johnson, and received her primary education at Thayer Academy in Winchester. She furthered her education at the University of New Hampshire, where she received her B.S. Degree, and later earned her Masters Degree at Syracuse University. On July 11, 1948, Margaret and Leonard C. Grubel were united in marriage at the United Church of Winchester, a loving union of almost 29 years until his death on April 7, 1977. Prior to her retirement, Margaret was employed as the Library Media Specialist at Sauquoit Valley Central School for many years. She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Sauquoit, currently Three Steeples Church in Paris, the Upper Mohawk Valley Chapter of the United Nations Association of the U.S., N.Y. Retired Teachers, the Community Club of Sauquoit, the Town of Paris Historical Society, the Order of the Eastern Star, Kings Daughters and Sons, was a Kappa Delta Sister and a Literacy Volunteer, and was instrumental in the formation of the Mohawk Valley Learning In Retirement (MVLIR) at S.U.N.Y. IT. Margaret is survived by her daughters, the Rev. Dr. Betsey and Michael Crimmins, of Elmira, NY, and Cynthia J. and Daniel Anderson, of Pomfret, MD; her son, Robert L. Grubel and Sandy Burg, of Floyd, VA; her grandchildren, Amy Avery-Grubel, Dolphin and Mike Thalhauser, Dr. Sarah Crimmins and husband, Dr. Douglas Orbaker, Abigail Crimmins, Rebecca Crimmins, Megan Anderson, Lauren Anderson and Jesse Anderson; her great-grandson, Fisher Thalhauser; her sister, Mary L. Johnson, of Winchester, NH; her brother, Dr. William L. Johnson, of Dummerston, VT; her sister-in-law, Mary E. Johnson, of Winchester; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Stephen P. Johnson. A celebration of Margaret's life will take place on Sunday, May 18, at 4:00 at Three Steeples Church, 2817 Old State Rt. 12. Her family will greet attendees at the conclusion of the service. Interment in Crown Hill Memorial Park will be at the convenience of the family.
