He was also a member of Candies Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 61 years, Marion Cooke; and his parents, Edward and Jessie Cooke. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Wayne (Jane) Cooke of Pennsylvania, Cheryl Cooke (Milan) Sivacek of Murfreesboro, TN, Ruth (Dwayne) Sherland of Huntington, NY and Tim (Debbie) Cooke of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Allen Cooke. His family will receive friends Tuesday, March 22, from 5-7 p.m. at Grissom Serenity Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life immediately following in the chapel of the funeral home at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jamie Work officiating. Grissom-Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Candies Creek Academy, 294 Old Eureka Rd, Charleston, TN 37310.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Robert Cooke of Cleveland; children, Wayne Cook and wife, Jane of PA, Cheryl Sivacek and husband, Milan of Murfreesboro, Ruth Sherland and husband, Dwayne of Dix Hills, NY and Tim Cooke and wife, Debbie of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bess Ciarcia and husband, Gerry of MA and Ruth Mark and husband, Jesse of Lexington, KY; seven brothers, Bruce Childs of ME, Bob Childs and wife, Mary of MA, Lloyd Childs and wife, Shira of ID, Don Childs and wife, Carole of IL, Walter Childs, Jr. and wife, Jenny of FL, Richard Childs and wife, Bernice of MA and Myron Shepardson of NY; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, in the chapel of Grissom Funeral Home with Pastor Jamie Work officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 9 at the Grissom Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
