His gravestone gives it as 1874, and the 1900 Census gives May 1874, and his World War I Draft Registration, which he personally filled out, gives it as 7 May 1874. He was a member of Central Congregational church and had served as a deacon, being honorary deacon at the time of his death. He had also served on the cemetery commission and was a member of the Minute Tapioca Old Timers club"
