      Born in Orange on July 2, 1938, she was a daughter of George E. and Dorothy M.. Rogers Atherton and lived all her life in Orange. She attended Orange Elementary schools and graduated from Orange High School in 1956. She was married to Frank Geikie Jr., and enjoyed thirty eight years of marriage until his death on December 9, 1995. A longtime employee of the L. S. Starrett Company in Athol for over 25 years, she retired in 2000.
      She loved music all her life, was a longtime member of the Orange Community Band, played the saxophone and enjoyed the Pioneer Brass as well as the Petersham Brass Band. She was a longtime supporter of the Mahar Rahjahas, the parent support group for the music department. Eleanor served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts for several years. She also had been one of the founders of Boy Scout Troop 1837. A member of the Orange Central Congregational Church and was a friend of the First Universalist Church in Orange also.
      Survivors include a son, Glenn T. Geikie of North Attleboro; daughters, Cara M. Deane of Orange, and Lisa D. Jean of East Berlin, PA; grandchildren, Aubree Deane and Kyle Deane of Orange, Samantha Geikie of Fallbrook, CA, Jeffrey Geikie and Kellsey Geikie of North Attleboro, and Abbey Jean of East Berlin, PA; and her fiance, Richard Valley Besides her husband Frank, she was predeceased by a son, Bruce M. Geikie in 1997 and a brother, Ernest Atherton in 1982 and another brother, Alton Atherton.
      Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, October 8, 2005 at 10:00AM in Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. The Rev. Vance E. Frank will officiate. Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening, October 7th from 6-8PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to the Orange Community Band, c/o Richard Tandy, 30 Burrill Ave., Orange, mA 01364 or to the Orange Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 298, Orange, mA 01364. His gravestone gives it as 1874, and the 1900 Census gives May 1874, and his World War I Draft Registration, which he personally filled out, gives it as 7 May 1874. Clearly the Delvee records are in error.

He was a member of Central Congregational church and had served as a deacon, being honorary deacon at the time of his death. He had also served on the cemetery commission and was a member of the Minute Tapioca Old Timers club"
