Barnes, 78, of 232 West River St., died Saturday, March 11, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Bethann Barnes of Dusty Lane in Tully. His wife of 46 years, Barbara A. (McKenney) Barnes, died Jan. 24. He leaves three sons, Charles E. Barnes of San Angelo, Texas, Larry L. Barnes of Orange and David A. Barnes of Phillipston; a daughter, Jean M. Whitmore of Oxford; two brothers, Loriston L. Barnes of Athol and Fred L. Barnes of Salem, Ore.; two sisters, Ruth Miller and Ethel Landon, both of Athol; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Athol, son of Loriston L. and Lydia (Graves) Barnes. He graduated from Athol High School in 1940, and had lived in Orange for the past 47 years. Mr. Barnes was a Navy veteran serving during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa and Saipan, also serving with the Seabees as an electrician. Mr. Barnes worked as an electrician at Union Twist Drill in Athol, Rodney Hunt Co. and the Walter E. Fernald School in Templeton, for many years until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Barnes was a 33rd degree Mason, member and past master of Star-Athol Lodge of Masons for over fifty years, past High Priest of Crescent Chapter, past illustrious Master of Titus-Strong Council, past commander Athol-Orange Commandery, past district deputy Grand High Priest, member of the Knights of York Cross of Honor. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and attending band concerts with his wife. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, in Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at the funeral home. Members of Star-Athol Lodge of Masons will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or Star-Athol Lodge, 336 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.     ORANGE- Iva I. (Jones) McKenney, 96, of 58 Winter Street, died Tuesday evening, December 26, 2006 at Applewood Home for Elders in Athol, following an illness.

    Born on April 13, 1910 in Pelham, she was a daughter of William and Etta (Upton) Jones and grew up in the former Quabbin town of Prescott before moving to Orange in 1927.

    She was a graduate of Fitchburg High School in 1928.
    She was married to Everett A. McKenney who died on August 15, 1981, and they had enjoyed 49 years together.

    A devoted family lady who enjoyed her time with them, Iva also was a longtime member of the First Universalist Church of Orange, the church's Unity Club, the Orange Historical Society, Orange Senior Citizens Club, and the Swift River Historical Society. She was a great volunteer to all of these organizations.

    Survivors include her son, Robert W. McKenney of Orange; daughters, Joan Reid, and her husband, George, of Orange, and Marie Tavernini of Alexandria, Virginia; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
    Besides her beloved husband Everett, she was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Barnes on January 24, 2000, and two brothers, Oren Jones and Paul Jones.

    Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, December 29, 2006 at 11:00AM at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery in New Salem.

    There will be a calling hour from 10-11AM prior to the service at the funeral home.

    In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the First Universalist Church, 31 North Main Street, Orange, MA 01364.
