• Obituary: 22 Feb 1997; HOLDEN - Dr. Richard C. Kelton, 94, of 1680 North Main St., a local veterinarian for 45 years, died Thursday at home. His wife of 60 years, Elsie M. (Haubenreiser) Kelton, died in 1994. He leaves two sons, Jon D. Kelton of Holden and Thomas F. Kelton of Indianapolis; a daughter, Sara Kelton Jamharian of Englewood, Fla.; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Brookline, son of George H. and Ruth (Coolidge) Kelton, and lived in Hubbardston, Slatersville, R.I., Sharon, Scotland, Conn., Bolton, Philadelphia and Bedford, Pa., before moving to Holden in 1951. Dr. Kelton was a self-employed veterinarian here for 45 years, retiring last August. He helped people of limited income afford health care for their animals. Dr. Kelton graduated from North High School, Worcester, in 1920 and Stockbridge School of Agriculture, now part of the University of Massachusetts, in 1928. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia in 1948. Dr. Kelton was a foreman at a textile mill in Slatersville from 1928 to 1932.
