    • History: According to his obituary,"C A Skelton claimed to be the only man in the company who sold combines in a five and ten cent store. That was in 1920 when he was operating a variety store here and took over the Case Implement dealership, selling them in connection with his already-established variety store. He had operated the Skelton Variety Store, in the third block on the east side of Main Street, for about 20 years when he sold it to Sam Saunders in February, 1936. Skelton came here from Clovis, NM in 1911 to become manager of Kemp Lumber Company. After operating it for almost five years, he left that business, he opened an implement house and at one time estimated he had sold half a million dollars worth of Case implements. Miss Gladys Johnston and CA Skelton were married in Amarillo in 1915. They were the parents of Sally (Mrs Pete) Garrett, Alamogordo; Catherine (Mrs Tom) Parker, San Berardino, Calif.; and Charles Skelton (Sally Small), Hereford. They were members of the Methodist Church, and Skelton was a Mason. He died here on Feb. 14,1939 and she in 1957. Charles Skelton is a former Deaf Smith County Sheriff and is currently devoting his time to the feed lot business and writing. He is had gun editor of the "Gunsport" magazine and publishes free lance articles on guns regularly. The Charles Skelton's have one son."
