    • Obituary: 28 Oct 1915; Joseph D. Green Another prominent and honored pioneer of Stafford county and veteran of the Civil War has passed from am us in the person of Joseph 1). Green. The call from apparent good health to death came suddenly Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock at his homo in this city. He had been down town as usual that morning and spent some time sociably with friends before returning home- On reaching the house he seated himself and passed a few words of conversation with Mrs. Green and Mr Ed Metz who were in the room, and while thus engaged passed quietly away. He was for many years a leading citizen of the county, widely known and very highly respected. The funeral services at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock wete largely attended. Rev. D. M. Yetter conducted the service, and the funeral was under the direction of the local G. A-R. with Israel Moore, Post Commander. The pall bearers were: Mm. Glasscock, N. Davison, W. H. Row, John A. Morgan, A. C. Glasscock and R. S. Shank. Burial was in Fair-view cemetery. The pastor's notes contained the following obituary of Mr. Green: Joseph D. Green was born in Warwick, Massachusetts, May 25th, 1837, where he grew to manhood. At the call of his country he enlisted in company D of the 12th Massachusetts infantry and after three years and seven months service was honorably discharged, and for many years has been a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. On May 20th, 1876, he was married to Miss Anna A. Morrison who after having lived together for nearly forty years is left a widow. To this union were born seven children all of whom live in Stafford county. They are Mrs. Lillie Fergus, Mrs. Bertha Johnson, Edward G., Frank L., Chester L., Joseph W. and Mrs. Grace Metz. Mr. and Mr. Green came to Kansas in March of 1878 and settled within the bounds of what is now Stafford county, before the county was organized and have lived in the county ever since. They have lived all these years on a farm until about five years ago when they moved to St John, where Mr. Green died October 25th, 1915, at the advanced age of 78 years and five months. Mr. Green was reared under Christian influences in the Baptist church but never joined with' any denomination. He died as he had lived, an honest, upright man, with many friends and few, if any, enemies. His going was sudden.
