- Obituary: 22 Feb 1997; HOLDEN - Dr. Richard C. Kelton, 94, of 1680 North Main St., a local veterinarian for 45 years, died Thursday at home.
His wife of 60 years, Elsie M. (Haubenreiser) Kelton, died in 1994. He leaves two sons, Jon D. Kelton of Holden and Thomas F. Kelton of Indianapolis; a daughter, Sara Kelton Jamharian of Englewood, Fla.; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Brookline, son of George H. and Ruth (Coolidge) Kelton, and lived in Hubbardston, Slatersville, R.I., Sharon, Scotland, Conn., Bolton, Philadelphia and Bedford, Pa., before moving to Holden in 1951.
Dr. Kelton was a self-employed veterinarian here for 45 years, retiring last August. He helped people of limited income afford health care for their animals. Dr. Kelton graduated from North High School, Worcester, in 1920 and Stockbridge School of Agriculture, now part of the University of Massachusetts, in 1928. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia in 1948.

He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association. He was active in the Rural Glen Cemetery Association in Hubbardston and was a member of the Peter Delvee Family Association and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. A private graveside service will be held in Rural Glen Cemetery, Hubbardston. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 1216 Main St., Holden 01520, or the Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester 01606 or the American Cancer Society, 7 Oak St., Worcester 01609. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., is directing arrangements.
