    • Obituary: 28 Feb 2005; RATTLEBORO - Kathryn Kingsbury Magoon, 104, died Feb. 26, 2005, at Eden Park Nursing Home. She is thought to have been Windham County's oldest resident. She was born Dec. 22, 1900, in Chester, the daughter of Arthur and Flossie Kingsbury. She attended schools in Chester. She married Watson Magoon on Dec. 22, 1918. He died in 1930. Mrs. Magoon was employed around Brattleboro for people including Jean Gorsuch and Hildegard Durfee. She enjoyed the annual family reunion, gardening, canning and watching the Reformer Christmas Stocking reach its goal. On the occasion of her 104th birthday in December, Mrs. Magoon received close to 150 greeting cards. Survivors include three daughters, Maxine Smith of Vernon, Alberta Bellville of Brattleboro, Anita Stone of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister, Marjorie Putnam of Chester; a brother, Theodore Kingsbury of Thomaston, Conn.; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Magoon was also predeceased by two sons, Albert Magoon and Robert Magoon; two daughters, Virginia Taylor and an infant daughter, Rona Magoon; four brothers, Leonard Kingsbury, Bernard Kingsbury, Francis Kingsbury, Fred Kingsbury; two sisters, Edna Kingsbury and Mildred Fuller. Calling hours will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the service. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home, 35 Depot Street in Chester. Earle Bishop and John Martens will officiate. A reception will follow at the Andover Community Church. Marjory was born July 30, 1911. Marjory was married to Harold Putnam and they enjoyed farming and caring for animals until his death in 1957. Marjory worked for 30 years at Springfield Hospital until her retirement in 1989. She was predeceased by her husband, her son, Arthur "Sonny" Putnam, and daughter-in-law Roberta. She enjoyed fishing with her sister, Edna, watching the birds visit her birdfeeders and baking banana bread. She enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers and was still actively tending her gardens until the last few years of her life. Marjory was very devoted to family and spent much of her time babysitting for her six great-grandchildren. Marjory is survived by her brother, Ted, grandchildren Dan, Marsha, Richard and Paul, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and numerous family and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 35 Depot St., Chester. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. A visiting hour in the funeral home will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Adams Funeral Homes of Chester is entrusted with the arrangements. He was the widower of the late Irene (Lockshire) Kingsbury and the son of Arthur Kingsbury and Flossie (Leonard) Kingsbury. Ted was born in Chester, Vt. on Dec. 16, 1912, the youngest of 10 children. He grew up on a very small dairy farm, learning early on about hard work. He moved to Connecticut in 1930 where he met and married his wife, Irene, soon after. Ted was a quiet man who worked hard and loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, fishing, belonging to the Masons, music and was a lifelong member of The Covenant Church. Ted is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Siron-Cox of Ohio, and his son Gary and wife Karen of Thomaston. His son Theodore Kingsbury Jr., daughter Joyce Kingsbury-Howe and grandson Damon Luke Siron predeceased him. He will be missed by his grandchildren Jessica and Emily Kingsbury, Benjamin, Jonathon, Sarah and Katie Howe and his great-granddaughter Semira Campbell. Mrs. Smith was born in Putney on September 11, 1921 the daughter of Watson and Kathryn (Kingsbury) Magoon. She was raised and educated in Brattleboro attending Brattleboro High School. She had been employed at the Holstein-Friesian Association working as a clerk and retired as a supervisor in 1986 following 23 faithful and dedicated years with the Association. Previously she had worked at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates on Cotton Mill Hill. A woman of strong faith she was a longtime member of Vernon Union Church where she served as a deaconess and member of the church choir. Mrs. Smith enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the former Green Mountain Squares, held membership in the Silver Liners Line Dance Club and was active for many years with the Vernon Seniors. For several years she assisted with the town of Vernon monthly newspaper. Of her other leisure time activities she enjoyed gardening, her flowers, puttering around her former home on Stebbins Road. She especially liked music and never missed the Lawrence Welk Show. She was an avid reader and cherished time spent with her family. On August 1, 1942 in Brattleboro she was married to Floyd Smith. Her faithful and devoted husband of 56 years predeceased her on February 6, 1999. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Sawin and her husband Jesse of Athol, Mass., and Kathryn Knapp and her husband Richard of Brattleboro; two daughters, in-law, Patricia T. She also co-owned with her husband Johnny's Drive-In in Hinsdale and Page's Dairy Bar in Brattleboro. In her earlier years she had worked at the former Spaulding's in Brattleboro. With her husband, Ken, she also provided foster care for many local children providing them with a loving and safe home. Steadfast in her walk of faith, Mrs. Bellville was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she was active with the church's Relief Society. Mrs. Bellville was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed time spent with her family and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. On January 27, 1945 in South Mills, N.C. she was married to Kenneth Bellville. Her faithful and devoted husband of 70 years predeceased her on March 18, 2015. Survivors include two sons, Peter Bellville of Galt, CA and Jeffrey Bellville of Brattleboro; two daughters, Jan Bellville of Brattleboro and Lynn McCarty of Acampo, CA; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by two brothers, Albert and Robert Magoon; a daughter, Gail Lamson; and three sisters, Maxine Smith, Virginia Taylor and Anita Stone. She was born Sept. 10, 1927, in East Putney, the daughter of Guy and Mildred (Kingsbury) Finney. She attended school in Plymouth and Woodstock High School, later completing her high school education and earning her GED. She married Emmanuel ?Lucky? Martin in White River Junction. She had worked for G.W. Plastic in Bethel, and had been a bus driver for Stage Coach in Randolph, and a cab driver for New Face Taxi Service. She was a member of the Chelsea Area Senior Citizens and volunteered numerous hours delivering Meals On Wheels to seniors and for the Vermont Blind Association. She was a member of local choirs and took part in the Tunbridge Civic Club's annual Minstrel Show. She also enjoyed painting, flower gardening, and going to the ocean in Maine. She is survived by three sons, David R. Martin of Springfield, Daniel R. Martin of Putney and Tim R. Martin of South Royalton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Guy R. Martin; and a brother, Earl Allard. Calling hours were held Tuesday at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. Funeral services will be today at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery in Tunbridge.
