• History: Sidney graduated in 1955 from Greenfield High School. After his graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving on board the U.S.S. Intrepid until his discharge in 1957. According to his obituary, "Following Walker's honorable discharge from the United States Navy, he worked as a milk tank driver for Tenney Farms of Northfield. He later worked for more than 25 years, as an employee of the Bernardston Grain Mill. He also worked for the Town of Northfield road crew, Case Brothers Paper Mill, Smead Lumber and Cersosimo Lumber, retiring in September of 2001. Sid and Sheila opened their home to many young relatives during their married lives. Though never formally adopted, the Walkers helped to raise two of their nephews, Ernest Frost Jr. of Northfield, MA, and James Aldrich of Guilford, VT. Through his mentoring of these two boys, Sid grew to think of them as his sons. Walker's interests included deer hunting, small engine repair, woodworking and visiting with family and friends."

  Douglas M. Walker

  ERVING, MA - Douglas M. Walker, 78, of Mountain Road, died at home early Tuesday morning, January 24, 2023 following an illness, with loved ones at his side. Born in Northfield on June 25, 1944, he was the son of the late William C. and Florence (Miller) Walker and attended Northfield schools and graduated from Greenfield Commerce School. On September 12, 1993, Doug married Mary (Whitmore) and enjoyed 43 wonderful years together. Doug was employed with Erving Paper Mill for 38 years before retiring. An avid sports fan, Doug enjoyed all the New England sports, but especially the Boston Bruins. Doug had a gift for making others laugh and enjoyed all the family functions. He liked to play cards, going to the casino, playing Keno, and grilling for everyone. Doug loved his John Deere tractor and was known for plowing out his neighbors during the winter. He loved his log cabin and Walker Mountain. A member of the Erving Fire Department, Doug was also a member of the Orange American Legion and the Harmony Lodge of Freemasons. Doug leaves his loving wife, Mary Walker of Erving; his children, Shawn Walker (Jenn) of North Carolina, Scott Walker of Warwick and Brad Walker (Beth) of Northfield; step children, Michelle Guerin (George) of Greenfield, Kim Guerin (Derrick) of Athol and BJ Guerin of Athol; grandchildren, Stephanie Walker and Bryan Walker, both of North Carolina, Kelsey Walker of Warwick, Lily Walker of Barre, Benjamin Walker of Orange, Sofia Walker and Austin Walker, both of Northfield, Kirsten Tuller of Brattleboro, Vermont, Shania Vigneau of North Carolina, Shane Harty of Washington, Kayla Robideau, Kiki Guerin and Tyler Guerin, all of Athol; two great grandchildren, Aiden Brown of Brattleboro, Vermont and Hayden Guerin of Gardner. Doug also leaves a sister, Ethel Walker of New York and a brother, Richard Walker, of Northfield; as well as several nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by a son, Brent Walker on January 4, 2023; and brothers, William, Sidney, Daniel and James Walker. There are no calling hours. • Obituary: 7 Jan 2023; WARWICK, MA - Brent F. Walker, 50, of Wendell Road, died on Wednesday morning, January 4, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer, with loved ones at his side. Born in Greenfield on July 11, 1972, he was the son of Douglas and Barbara (Johnson) Walker. He attended Pioneer Valley Regional and graduated from Franklin County Technical School. Brent was employed at Johnson's Farm Restaurant until it closed. He had previously worked for Adams Doughnuts and Horizon Beverage Company. Brent was a son, brother, amazing father, special uncle and nephew. He was a generous and loyal friend with a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He loved a good time and always loved his gatherings for family events or parties with friends. He had beautiful blue eyes and a infectious laugh, "Brentski" enjoyed going to Herrick's Tavern, playing Keno and loved lobster. Brent served on the Warwick Fire Department for a number of years. With a love of cooking and baking, Brent would deliver his baked goods to family and friends. His special relatives and friends would receive a giant chocolate chip cookie for their birthday. Brent enjoyed kayaking with his son, karaoke parties, trips to Maine, going for rides, and his dog "Jack". Brent is survived by his son, Benjamin; his mother, Barbara Johnson Walker; his father, Doug Walker (Mary); brothers, Shawn Walker (Jenn), Scott Walker, Brad Walker (Bethany), and Shane Smart (Danielle); nephews and nieces, Kelsey, Lily, Stephanie, Bryan, Austin and Sofia. He also leaves his step siblings, BJ Guerin, Kim Guerin (Derrick Robideau), Michelle Guerin (George); many aunts, uncles and cousins; along with the mother of his son, Paula Walker. Brent also leaves many friends including his BFF's and caretakers, Ron and Lori Gates and Michael. There are no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held on January 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Metcalf Memorial Chapel, 32 Athol Road, Warwick, MA, with Rev. Dan Dibble officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brent's memory can be made to the Warwick Firemen's Association, 1 Hastings Pond Road, Warwick, MA 01378.
