    Text ORANGE- Richard K. Russell, 69, of 44 East Myrtle Street, died on Thursday afternoon, March 8, 2012 at home following an illness, with family at his side.

    Born in Ware on July 1, 1942, he was a son of Martin and Marion (Coolidge) Russell and grew up in Petersham, graduating from Ralph C. Mahar Regional School in Orange in 1960.

    Richard was married to Janice L. (Young) in 1997, after dating since 1987, and have enjoyed their years together. Richard was previously married to Symphony (Brewster).

    Employed by Roadway Freight Lines for 27 years, Richard retired in 1997 at age 57. He previously had worked at the former Union Twist Drill Company in Athol, as well as the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange.

    Richard enjoyed sudoku puzzles, cooking, going to Wells, Maine, taking several cruises, and was a huge New England Patriots fan.

    Survivors include his beloved wife, Janice Russell of Orange; a son, Richard Russell of Orange; step-children, Billy Smith and his wife, Alicia, of Alexandria, VA, Michael Smith of Athol, Lori Pierro and her husband, Anthony, of Swampscott, and Timothy Smith and his fiancée, Kathy Grenier, of Orange; grandchildren, Daphne Davis, Amanda Smith, Aubrie Smith, Annalise Smith, Jason Smith, Kianna Smith, Nicholas Pierro, Christian Pierro, Victoria Pierro and Kayala Smith; a sister, Betty Giacomazzi and her husband, Michael, of Apopka, FL; a brother, Roger Russell and his wife, Becky, of Durham, NC; many nephews and nieces; and his former wife, Symphony Brewster of Stuart, FL.

    Besides his parents, Richard is predeceased by a son, Scott K. Russell, who died in 1985.

    Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening, March 15, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, ORANGE.
